Pioneer Valley Shamanic Drumming Circle
The purpose of a shamanic drumming circle is to meet as a community, to call on the practical wisdom and healing power of our spirit teachers and guardian animals, and increase our shamanic knowledge by sharing with each other.
This shamanic drumming circle is dedicated to the practice of Core Shamanism through shamanic journeying. Core Shamanism is the universal principals and practices of shamanism that are found throughout the world, but not connected to any specific indigenous culture.
During the drumming circle introductions are made and sage is passed around to purify us of any negative thoughts and feelings we may have. We sing our soul songs and then someone calls in the helping spirits of the four directions and the universe. Anyone who wishes to may then drum for a journey (usually about 10 minutes). The leader may suggest a topic or call for suggestions for a group journey.
A shamanic journey involves lying down on a blanket and closing your eyes while a monotonous drum beat is played. You then visualize a journey to another world where you contact a guardian spirit for help with questions and problems. When the drumming ends you bring your attention back to the room. We then go around the circle, sharing our visionary adventures, or passing if we do not feel like doing so.
Finally, we hold hands in a healing circle. This is done by asking the group to ask their helping spirits to send energy to a specific person. Please remember that you can always ask for help for yourself, but that you must always have permission before asking on someone else’s behalf. We usually conclude by singing the Circle Song, and by thanking all the spirits for their help.
Please bring a notebook, a drum, a rattle and a blanket to lie down on.
Regular attendees of a shamanic drumming circle find the following benefits: A supportive place to practice shamanism; increasing shamanic knowledge by sharing with each other; strengthening their connections to their helping spirits; and healing for individuals and for the community.
Prior shamanic journey experience is suggested, but not required. |
